New to EffectCraft? Here's what it is

Option 1 — ArtCraft Launcher (recommended)

The Launcher installs EffectCraft and every other Crafting App from one place, picks the right build for your computer and keeps them all up to date. Install it once and every update is one click.

  • · Every Crafting App
  • · One-click updates
  • · Verified downloads
Download ArtCraft Launcher v0.3.2

Option 2 — Standalone EffectCraft

These installers add EffectCraft on its own, without the launcher. Come back to this page for new versions, or install the launcher later and it will find EffectCraft and keep it updated.

File name pattern: effectcraft-0.8.0-{windows-x64|windows-arm64|macos-universal|linux-x86_64|linux-aarch64|freebsd-x86_64}.{msi|dmg|AppImage|deb|rpm|flatpak|tar.gz}

Checksums: SHA256SUMS.txt on the same release page.

How to install

Windows

Download the x64 .msi (or the ARM64 .msi on Windows on ARM) and double-click it. Prefer no install? Take the portable .zip, unzip it and run effectcraft.exe — no installer, no registry entries.

macOS

Open the .dmg and drag EffectCraft into Applications. The build is universal (Apple silicon and Intel) and it's signed and notarized, so Gatekeeper won't get in the way.

Linux

Three ways: mark the AppImage executable and run it; install the Flatpak; or install the .deb / .rpm with your package manager.

chmod +x effectcraft-0.8.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
./effectcraft-0.8.0-linux-x86_64.AppImage
flatpak install --user effectcraft-0.8.0-linux-x86_64.flatpak

Build from source

You'll need Rust 1.95 or newer.

git clone https://github.com/storytold/effectcraft.git
cd effectcraft
cargo run --release -p effectcraft

Verify your download

Every release ships a SHA256SUMS.txt. On macOS or Linux run shasum -a 256 <file>; on Windows PowerShell run Get-FileHash <file>. If a checksum doesn't match, delete the file and download it again.

Which file should I pick?

  • Windows 11 on an ARM laptop (Snapdragon, etc.) — use the ARM64 .msi; it runs natively, without x64 emulation.
  • Older 32-bit Windows — the x86 .msi or portable .zip.
  • Not sure about your Mac — take the universal .dmg; it covers Apple silicon and Intel in one file.
  • Linux server or a machine without a desktop — the Linux tarball, or build from source.

System requirements

Windows 10 and 11 · macOS · Linux (x86_64 and aarch64) · FreeBSD x86_64 · or a browser via the WebAssembly build. Building it yourself needs Rust 1.95+.

FAQ

Is EffectCraft free?
Yes — free, open source, MIT and Apache-2.0 licensed. No subscription, no account, no license key, no watermark.
Who makes it?
The ArtCraft project, the team behind PhotoCraft, FilmCraft, VectorCraft and the rest of the Crafting Apps. The source is at github.com/storytold/effectcraft.
Do I need the Launcher?
No. The standalone installers bring EffectCraft on its own — you just have to come back here for new versions.
Is there a version for Apple silicon?
The macOS disk image is universal, so the same file works on Apple silicon and Intel.
Can it open my After Effects projects?
No. Projects are saved as .ecproj; .aep and .aepx files can’t be opened and After Effects plugins don’t run.
Where do I report a bug?
GitHub Issues on the repository, or the ArtCraft Discord.
